Our Lady of Medjugorje is the name given to visions believed to be of the Virgin Mary. The sightings are so named because since 1981 the Virgin Mary is said to have made appearances in the village of Medjugorje, located in Bosnia-Hercegovina.
The sightings have been seen by over 40 million pilgrims throughout the years. The most consistent appearances have been made to six villagers who were young when the visions first started: Mirjana, Ivanka, Marija, Jakov, Vicka and Ivan.
Our Lady of Medjugorje's main message to the world is that she has come to let the world know that God exists and that people must return to God to experience fullness of life and peace. In addition to instructing the six messengers to fast, pray and study God's word, she has given them warnings of things that may come to pass before the end of the world.
Our Lady of Medjugorje promised to give each of the six people 10 secrets, after which she will no longer appear to them every day, and the people of the world will have little time left to turn their lives over to God. Ivanka, Mirjana and Jakov have all received their 10 secrets; Vicka, Ivan and Marija have each received nine secrets so far, as of January 2015.
