A person's individual Japanese zodiac sign depends on their exact date of birth. The Japanese zodiac system, which is based on the eastern zodiac system, is divided into 12-year cycles with each cycle identified with a different animal.
The 12 animals of the Japanese zodiac system are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster and boar. Under the Japanese zodiac, individuals born in a particular year is said to inherit some characteristics of their zodiac animal. The Chinese zodiac system, which the Japanese zodiac is based from, has a similar 12-year cycle but with some minor differences in animals, such as the inclusion of the pig rather than the boar.
