John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." This verse deals with one of the core Christian beliefs, that God sent his son, Jesus, to give eternal life to those who would believe in him. Most of the New Testament Scriptures center around this idea.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." This word was given to the Israelites by the prophet Jeremiah while they were in captivity in Babylon. It was of particular significance because of the challenging state in which that they found themselves. This is a clear message of hope in a time when it seemed like no hope was to be found.
