What Is Habitat for Humanity?

Habitat for Humanity is an international nonprofit organization that is committed to building simple, decent and affordable housing. This organization was founded in 1976 and is a self-proclaimed Christian housing ministry that aims to address issues regarding housing poverty across the world.

Habitat for Humanity, or simply Habitat, builds or renovates homes and sells them to disadvantaged families for no profit. Habitat enlists the help of volunteers and regional affiliates to assist in every aspect of home construction and donation collection. As of November 2014, Habitat has constructed or fixed up more than 800,000 houses worldwide since 1976. This organization has provided safe homes for more than 1.5 million people.
