In the Christian tradition, the archangel Gabriel is a messenger from God to mankind. Gabriel appears in both the Old Testament and New Testament. The best-known story about Gabriel is his appearance to the Virgin Mary in the Gospel of Luke, when he foretells the birth of Jesus.
In the Old Testament, Gabriel comes to Daniel and interprets his visions. In the New Testament, besides predicting the birth of Jesus, Gabriel also foretells the birth of John the Baptist to Zacharias in the Gospel of Luke. Gabriel is the patron saint of people who work in communication-related fields such as radio, television and the postal service.
