What Is a Glucose Levels Chart?

A glucose levels chart provides the different target ranges for different times of the day so that people with diabetes can monitor properly their blood sugar levels, relates WebMD. The chart provides the normal glucose level ranges for before and after meals. The chart also gives the normal fasting range levels.

Diabetics should check blood sugar levels a few times a day. If the test is performed before a meal, the normal glucose range should be between 70 and 130 mg/dL for adults, according to WebMD. The normal fasting range blood sugar level should be under 100 mg/dL. The fasting level refers to a reading taken at least eight hours after a meal, states Virginia Mason Medical Center. Similarly, two hours after a meal, the reading should be under 180 mg/dL.

People with diabetes can manage the condition effectively through methods like taking medication, eating the proper foods and monitoring blood glucose levels on a daily basis with a simple at-home test. These measures can prevent certain complications of diabetes like stroke and heart problems, informs WebMD.

Some other possible complications of diabetes are neuropathy, retinopathy, kidney disease and skin infections, relates Mayo Clinic. When there is nerve damage to the feet, people may be more susceptible to infections that can lead to possible amputations.
