The complete human skeletal remains of an ancient man with gigantism were discovered near Rome in 2012. This legitimate scientific discovery of ancient remains is not to be confused with Internet hoaxes that claim that human bones have been found that match folkloric descriptions of giants.
Gigantism is a rare clinical condition that affects around three people in a million. The skeleton found near Rome would have been 6 feet, 8 inches tall, making him shorter than the world's tallest currently living man, who is 8 feet, 3 inches tall. Internet hoaxes tend to claim, falsely, that the remains of much taller people have been found. One hoax said that a 15-foot-tall man's remains were found in Greece.
