The GE fridge model number does not determine the age of a fridge. The month and year the GE appliance is manufactured is coded into the serial number.
The manufacturing date can be determined by decoding the first two letters of the serial number. The first letter of the serial number indicates the month the appliance is manufactured. The second letter refers to the manufacturing year.
For example, if the first letter is "A," this corresponds to the month of January. As the second letter, "D" indicates the year 2014. Thus, if the serial number of a GE appliance begins with "AD," it was manufactured in January 2014.
