How Do You Freshen Stale Nuts?

Stale nuts may still be eaten by toasting them to bring back a pleasing texture, color and flavor. It is not necessary to discard nuts that have gone stale.

To toast nuts, spread them on a baking sheet and place in an oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Toast the nuts for 10 minutes. A dry pan can also be used to toast the nuts on the stove top, a method that takes less than 10 minutes when using a medium-high heat.

Once the nuts have been toasted, use them right away or store them in an airtight container for future use. If storing nuts for a long time, it is advised to store them in the refrigerator in a tightly sealed container to slow the breakdown of the oils found in nuts. Preserving the oils helps prevent the nuts from going rancid.
