Low water pressure in a kitchen faucet is fixed by cleaning the aerator and changing the cartridge. Sediment buildup is common in all faucets, so they should be maintained regularly.
Reduced water pressure in kitchen faucets is common due to sediment clogging the aerator or problems with the faucet’s cartridge. Both problems are easy to resolve.
- Remove the aerator Use a set of pliers to remove the aerator from the tip of the faucet. Be sure to note how the aerator is put together so that it can be reassembled easily.
- Clean the aerator Rinse the screens and pieces within the aerator. If any holes appear to be clogged, clear them with a safety pin. If there are any serious hard water deposits, soak the parts overnight in white vinegar to clean them completely.
- Replace the aerator and test the faucet Put the aerator pieces back together and reattach the aerator to the end of the faucet. Test the flow from the faucet to see if the problem is resolved.
- Change the cartridge If the water pressure did not resolve itself, the cartridge needs replacing. Check the part number for the cartridge to obtain the correct replacement part. Verify the replacement instructions by using the owner’s manual for the faucet.
