According to Philippine Country, the Filipino culture places the highest value on family. Children are taught to respect their parents and elders from a very young age. The father is also considered the head of the family and the main provider.

The mother is responsible for instilling values in the children of the home and caring for their emotional needs. It is also common for Filipino parents to live with their sons and daughters later in life. Filipino family values also indicate that children are not permitted to oppose their parents or older siblings. In conservative Filipino families, children are expected to place an elder’s hand to their foreheads and greet the elder family member by saying “mano po.”
