In 2011, Fr. Corapi's religious order formally accused him of substance abuse, sexual misconduct and breaking his vow of poverty. It asserted that he had sexual relations with a woman, an action which violates the vow of chastity that religious priests and brothers make at their profession. The order also purportedly found that Fr. Corapi had broken his vow of poverty by having in his possession over $1 million in such items as real estate, motor boats, a boat dock and a variety of vehicles.
As a result, the order commanded Fr. Corapi to withdraw from public ministry, preaching and teaching. Fr. The scandal divided many in the Catholic world, as some of Fr. Corapi's followers continued to believe in his innocence.Learn more about Christianity
