Chicago Bandits pitcher, Monica Abbott, holds the world record for the fastest women's softball fastpitch at 77 miles per hour. She broke the previous record on June 16, 2012 in a game against the Carolina Diamonds, of North Carolina, at the Diamonds' home field in Kannapolis, N.C., according to MonicaAbbott.com.
For perspective, a baseball pitcher would have to throw a ball at 107.5 miles per hour to match Abbot's record-breaking pitch, reports MonicaAbbott.com. However, the fastest baseball pitch on record is 100.9 miles per hour, thrown by the California Angels' Nolan Ryan during a game against the Detroit Tigers held in 1974.
