Who Is the Fastest Runner in the World?

As of October, 2014, Usain Bolt is arguably the fastest runner in the world. Bolt is the first man to win both the 100-meter and 200-meter races in world record times in Olympic Games history. He won two gold medals at the London Olympics for the 100-meter and 200-meter races at consecutive Olympic Games.

Bolt was born in 1986 in Jamaica, and played cricket and took an interest in sprinting while growing up. When he was 14, fans began noticing his fast speeds when he sprinted. In 2001, Bolt won his first high school championship medal, winning a silver medal for the 200-meter race. He won the 200-meter dash in the 2002 World Junior Championships in Jamaica when he was 15 years old, making him the youngest world-junior gold medalist ever

With an estimated total of $20 million in earnings, his achievements also made him one of the highest paid track and field athletes in history. Usain Bolt shares most of his experiences as an athlete in his book, “My Story: 9:58 Being the World’s Fastest Man.”
