How Fast Can a Human Run?
The fastest recorded human running speed as of 2014 is 27.44 miles per hour, or 44.72 kilometers per hour, which was run by Usain Bolt during a 100-meter race. This number was calculated from his average speed between the 60th and 80th meters.
According to some projections published in the Journal of Experimental Biology in 2008, the fastest a normal human can possibly run 100 meters is 9.48 seconds, which is 0.1 seconds faster than the current world record being held by Usain Bolt of 9.58 seconds. The study posits that humans are near the peak in terms of sprinting speed, with little likelihood of improvement in the future.
