Aimee Semple McPherson was famous for her dynamic preaching methods, which included speaking in tongues and performing faith healing. She used modern media to get her message out to a wider audience, which was unusual at the time. She is also famous for some scandals, including an alleged kidnapping that resulted in her being charged with conspiracy and obstruction of justice. The charges were dropped, and the case never went to trial.
Catherine Booth was married to William Booth, and together they founded the Salvation Army. William Booth was originally opposed to women preachers, but he changed his mind after hearing Catherine preach. Margaret Fell was one of the founders of Quakerism and is credited with keeping the new religious movement together while George Fox, the first founder, was in prison. Sarah Crosby was a traveling preacher who defied the original Methodist ban on female preachers. She began preaching in 1761.
Although not an ordained minister, Dorothy Day was a devout Catholic who founded the Catholic Worker Movement, which is still helping poor and homeless people as of 2014.
