According to the Bible, Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem, lived in Egypt for a short period with his parents, then grew up in Nazareth. After he started to preach his gospel, he was essentially a homeless wanderer throughout Israel.
Jesus' mother and father traveled to Bethlehem to be counted for a census. He was born there and may have remained there for some time, but when Herod ordered that all children under the age of 2 were to be killed, his parents fled to Egypt with him. At some undefined time afterward, the family moved to Nazareth, possibly because there was plenty of carpentry work nearby for the father, Joseph.
