A cultural exchange is a program that allows participants to live and work or learn in another country for a period of time. Exchanges promote diversity by helping participants and the individuals in their host countries learn about each others' cultures.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs, most of these exchange programs are geared toward students; other exchange types vary from au pair programs to those for scholars or government visitors.
Younger exchange students live with a host family while they attend school and participate in the families' everyday lives. College students live and attend school just as native-born students do, or they participate in summer work programs. Some companies, such as Disney, have programs in place to promote and support cultural exchange.
