Exhaustion originates from alarm and resistance, the first two stages of the cycle of stress, and it can form a loop with them fairly readily. Once alarm, a response of shock or surprise, which elevates bodily function and floods the system with adrenaline is ended, resistance to its provoker sets in. Finally, the body runs out of energy and exhaustion takes over.
If experienced repeatedly, exhaustion can cause lasting damage to both physical and mental health. The body does not deal well with being continually pushed to its limits.
If a person cannot manage stress well, he will find himself repeatedly subject to exhaustion. There are many techniques for managing stress.
