Beets can be cooked using several different methods, including roasting, steaming, boiling and sautéing. Beets can also be blended into a smoothie or served raw as part of a salad.

Prep beets for cooking by removing the greens and washing the beets with a scrub brush. If you are concerned about the color transferring to your hands, you should wear gloves while preparing them. When roasting or boiling beets, the skin does not need to be peeled. However, if you are using another cooking method, peel the skin with a vegetable peeler or a paring knife.

To roast beets, drizzle them with oil and season with desired seasonings. Place the beets in foil and form a wrapper. Place them in the oven at 450 degrees Fahrenheit and roast until they are tender. To boil beets, submerge them in boiling water until they are tender. You can cut the beets first or leave them whole to boil.

In order to steam beets, cut them into 1/2-inch pieces and place them in a steamer basket with 2 inches of boiling water and cover. Cook them until they are tender. For sautéed beets, slice or dice beets and sauté in a pan with oil until beets are tender. Season to taste.
