What Is Considered a Good GPA?
Last Updated Mar 27, 2020 12:53:45 PM ET
A GPA of 3.5 is considered good and is near the average GPA of some highly competitive national universities. For acceptance to most universities, a minimum of a 3.0 GPA is required.
A 3.5 GPA falls between the letter grades B+ and A-, and is considered good for college bound students. While most universities will consider students with lower GPAs, if the student demonstrates strengths in other areas, the average GPA of college freshman can be 3.0 or higher. Very competitive universities that accept less the 25% of applicants, such as the University of Southern California and Vanderbilt University, see the average student entering their universities with a 3.7 GPA.
