What Is Consensual Political Culture?

Consensual political culture is a climate in which a large majority of citizens agree on the major problems facing the society, the best type of government and the solutions necessary to address social issues. It is the opposite of a conflictual political culture, wherein citizens are sharply divided and even antagonistic when it comes to determining what are the most important issues facing the nation and what is the best way to address those issues.

The United States has both a consensual and conflictual political culture. There are certain areas that are universally known to be problematic, such as crime and the economy, but while the populace is mostly in agreement that these issues must be addressed, they are conflicted regarding how to do so.
