What Does Conjecture Mean in Math?

In math, the term "conjecture" refers to a specific statement that is thought to be true but has not been proven. In geometry, there are many different conjectures, such as the sum of angles in a triangle, linear pair, parallel lines and inscribed angle conjectures.

One conjecture used in math by every student that is unproven is that the sum of the three angles in a triangle equals 180 degrees. Another conjecture involves parallel lines cut by a transversal. In this case, many different types of angles are formed, such as corresponding angles. A conjecture states that these corresponding angles formed are congruent.

There are many other famous unproven or unsolved conjectures in math. Some of these are the Poincare Conjecture, Goldbach Conjecture and the twin prime conjecture.
