The compression measurement for the 2015 model of Titleist's Pro V1 golf ball ranges from approximately 88 to 90, which gives the ball a compression rating of High. Compression is a calculation of how much a ball compresses against the club at impact and is expressed as a simple number.
Compression is one of many factors that determine how far a golf ball can fly, along with core size, cover material, relative thickness of the cover and broader aerodynamic qualities. The Titleist Pro V1x, a closely related ball to the Pro V1, has a firmer compression that is usually measured at approximately 95. Pro V1x balls are generally marketed to players who value longer distances on all shots.
