Effective communication enables a person to build strong interpersonal, small group and large group relationships. Communication is at the heart of a personal relationship in which two people disclose facts, opinions and beliefs, and listen to the same communication from the other party.
Small work groups rely on communication to share ideas, discuss them and come to resolutions. Communication minimizes the potential for mistaken assumptions and allows individuals and group members to work through conflicts. Public speaking and presentation skills are also part of the communication umbrella. Someone who communicates well in front of groups is better equipped for a leadership role than someone who does not.
