Olive green and medium purple are opposite on the color wheel, or complementary, and each color appears brighter when paired. Neutral colors, such as tan, brown, gray, black and white, also combine well with olive green.
The aesthetics of color coordination are highly subjective, but certain color schemes repeat often in color theory. The monochromatic color scheme uses different shades and tints of the same color subtly. Using this scheme, olive green coordinates with hunter, forest and moss green. A less jarring version of the complementary color scheme uses colors on either side of the complimentary color on the color wheel. This color scheme, called split-complementary, pairs olive green with royal purple or red.
