Many state and city laws prohibit parking within 30 feet of stop signs, such as in the law detailed by the Ohio Revised Code Laws and Rules. A similar law can be found in the Michigan Vehicle Code, which applies the same standard to traffic-control signal and flashing stop signs.
In Washington, the 30 foot law also extends to yield signs, according to the Washington State Legislature. Similar laws also restrict the distance a car can be parked from a crosswalk, a fire hydrant, a designated safety zone, the driveway of a fire station and in other specifically designated areas. New York City has some exceptions to the 30 foot rule, as detailed by the city’s Department of Transportation.
