According to Dutch geneticist Hans Eiberg, blue eyes sprang from a chance genetic mutation in a single individual who lived somewhere on the coast of the Black Sea 6,000 to 10,000 years ago. The gene that mutated is known as OCA2. Its operations determine if a person's eyes will be brown, blue or green. Blue eyes are the result of OCA2 switching off the mechanism that causes the eyes to be brown. Socially, blue eyes seem to be highly prized. Celebrities such as Cameron Diaz and Gwyneth Paltrow are famous for their blue eyes as much as for their talents.
Brown hair runs the color gamut from light brown to a deep brown that is almost black. Hair color varies depending on the levels of the naturally occurring pigments eumelanin, which is dark, and pheomelanin, which is light. Higher levels of pheomelanin will result in lighter-colored hair, while higher levels of eumelanin will lead to darker hair. Ladies with brown hair are often referred to as brunettes.Learn more about Philosophy
