How Do You Change Tires on a Ford Fusion?

Change the tires on a Ford Fusion by first loosening the lug nuts on the wheel that is in need of a new tire. Place a jack underneath the proper location on the vehicle’s frame, and follow the jack’s instructions to raise the car slowly. Fully loosen and remove the lug nuts, and slide the wheel off of the studs. Replace the wheel with a rim that has a properly installed tire, tighten the lug nuts and lower the vehicle.

Most vehicles include a jack, tire iron and spare full-size tire or compact spare tire in the trunk. The compact spare tire, or donut, found in most vehicles is rated for lower speeds than a normal tire and is designed to last for only a few hundred miles. The purpose of a donut tire is to provide drivers with a flat tire a way to get the vehicle home or to a shop for repairs, and it should not be used as a long-term replacement for a full-size tire.

Changing the tire on a rim requires special tools and equipment, and it is best left to trained automotive professionals to ensure a proper bead seal and balance. Improperly mounted tires can cause life-threatening accidents due to explosive failure or the tire’s falling off of the rim.
