What Is Canadian Identity?

Canadian identity is the combination of cultural phenomena that sets Canadians apart as their own people. Historically, Canadian identity has taken much influence from the French and the British, while modern day Canada is more similar to American culture.

Most Canadians identify themselves and their country as liberal and diverse with progressive influences from Europe, including a public healthcare system similar to the National Health System in the U.K. Many Canadians identify strongly with the dry, self-deprecating humor that utilizes Canada's most famous pop culture symbols, including the famous donut chain Tim Horton's, hockey as a national sport and maple leaves as a national symbol.
