Vaseline, also known as petroleum jelly, is best used on the face as a moisturizer as part of a daily skin care routine. Apply it to the face while the skin is still damp from the shower. Vaseline is also used to remove makeup and to protect the skin from wind burn. It also helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Use Vaseline to shape eyebrows by placing a small amount on a toothbrush, and brushing it across the brows to keep errant hairs under control. It can also act as an alternative to mascara when brushed over eyelashes. A light coating of petroleum jelly makes lashes look thicker and longer while maintaining a natural appearance. Adding a pinch of cinnamon or cayenne pepper to Vaseline and applying the mixture to the lips acts as a natural lip plumper. It also helps to relieve dry, cracked lips.

Pure petroleum-based ointments like Vaseline are hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, non-irritating, non-sensitizing. They contain no added colors or fragrances – making them a good choice for certain skin care applications because it is an oil-based emollient that naturally repels water. Emollients fill in the gaps between skin cells by replacing the skin’s lipids. Over time, skin becomes more prone to cracks, sensitivity and infection. The emollients in petroleum jelly help heal dry skin by sealing in moisture, in addition to acting as a barrier to prevent infection and further skin damage caused by the elements.
