A patient can drink alcohol while taking cefdinir, but it is not advisable, according to Drugs.com. Alcohol can have an adverse effect on patients who are taking this medication.
Cefdinir is an oral cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat mild or moderate bacterial infections. While most people who take cefdinir experience few or no reactions, it can cause side effects such as nausea, mild diarrhea and headaches.
Other side effects of cefdinir are dizziness and drowsiness. Drinking alcohol while taking this medication may make these side effects worse. While dizziness or drowsiness may be mild normally, combined with alcohol they could be moderate or severe, so it is suggested that alcohol be avoided while taking cefdinir.
