Viewing a televised mass, because it does not equate to attendance at mass, does not fulfill the Catholic Church's obligation that members attend mass on Sundays or certain holy days unless a serious reason prevents them from doing so. The church does not require those who are excused from mass attendance to make an effort to watch or listen to mass on television or radio.
The Catholic Church also requires members to attend mass on some weekdays known as holy days of obligation. The masses on these days have the same structure as Sunday masses, not those known as daily masses.
