Bible Study International is not a cult. BSI is a worldwide study group that creates lessons and classes for people who want to study the Bible. This inter-denominational not-for-profit organization has a formal board of directors, and the company’s mission statement promotes the study of the Bible exclusively.
Audrey Wetherell Johnson, a missionary to China, founded BSI over 50 years ago. Miss Johnson conducted in-home and church Bible studies at the request of a group of women who had heard her speak in a local church. Her predecessor, Rosemary Jensen, globalized the company, making it is what it is today. As of 2015, BSI reports that it serves 200,000 class members in 39 nations and on six continents.
