Full Answer

BSF International was founded by Audrey Wetherell Johnson in the late 1950s as an extension of Billy Graham's ministries. She started a BSF chapter in Berkeley, California, that led to its first international expansion to China.

Today, BSF serves 200,000 class members on six continents in 39 nations. Many of its members have gone on to leadership roles in Christian churches. The group's core belief revolves around a high view of God as the creator and sustainer of all. Its core values include a dependence on God, passion for Jesus Christ and compassion for others.

The group aims to bring individuals into a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ and to contribute more effectively to the life and work of their churches. It utilizes a four-step approach which includes answering daily questions, discussing insights, listening to lectures and reading lesson notes.

The group is a nonprofit ministry with an active board of directors. Susie Rowan currently directs the global ministry, as of 2015.
