As of 2014, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates that the population of Phoenix is slightly more than 1.53 million, making Phoenix the largest city in Arizona and the sixth-largest in the country. Tucson is second, with a population of nearly 528,000, followed by Mesa, which has roughly 463,000 residents.
Chandler and Gilbert are the fourth- and fifth-largest cities in Arizona, respectively, with estimated populations of 254,276 and 239,277.
Ten of the 295 U.S. cities with populations over 100,000, as of the 2014 estimates, were in Arizona. Each of the 10 cities experienced a growth in its population since the 2010 U.S. Census, although to varying degrees. Phoenix grew an estimated 6.03 percent over the course of those four years, while Tucson grew just 1.29 percent.
