How Do You Bake Chicken Legs?
Baking chicken legs simply requires preheating the oven to between 300 and 400 degrees Fahrenheit, placing the chicken in a roasting pan and cooking uncovered for 35 to 75 minutes, depending on the oven temperature. The higher the temperature, the less time the chicken needs to cook. Recipe variations for baked chicken legs include lemon pepper, green onion, and barbecue chicken.
To prepare baked lemon pepper chicken legs, squeeze the juice of one lemon, and add finely shredded lemon peel, minced garlic, crushed fennel seed and crushed red pepper. Mix well. Loosen the skin from the meat, and spoon the lemon mixture under. Drizzle the rest over the chicken legs, and cook for 35 to 40 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
For green onion chicken, place skinned chicken legs in a freezer bag. Add 1/2 cup of chopped green onions and 1/4 cup of olive oil. Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste, and turn the chicken to coat it well with the mixture. Close the bag, and refrigerate for a minimum of eight hours. Bake at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour and 15 minutes.
To make barbecue sauce for baked chicken legs, mix 1/3 cup of ketchup, 1/3 cup of white vinegar, 1/4 cup of brown sugar and 4 teaspoons of melted butter in a bowl. Add 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce, 2 teaspoons of dry mustard, 2 teaspoons of chili powder and 1/2 cup of water, whisking until mixed well. Place chicken legs in a baking pan, pour the barbecue sauce over and cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour.
