While the average number of miles a person drives per year depends on age and gender, the most important group of drivers — those between the ages of 35 and 54 — drive nearly 15,300 miles per year. This is reported in a 2014 U.S. PIRG Education Fund study.

Drivers between the ages of 20 and 34 drive approximately 15,100 miles per year, which is nearly as much as those who are in the 35 to 54 demographic. Males ages 35 to 54 drive the most at 18,858 miles per year, while women age 65 and over drive the least at 4,785 miles per year.
