The percentage of Americans who received a high school diploma was 90 percent between 2003 and 2013, according to the numbers provided by the National Center for Education Statistics of the U.S. Department of Education Approximately 34 percent of Americans had completed a bachelor's or higher degree in 2013.

The numbers provided by the U.S. Department of Education show that there are differences in the percentages of white, black and Hispanic individuals when it comes to the average level of education. The percentage of black individuals who attained a bachelor's degree reached 20 percent in 2013, whereas the percentage of Hispanics with the same degree was only 16 percent.
