One of the biggest advantages of living in the suburbs is that a person can have a plethora of housing options and it is very easy to get insurance in case of a robbery or an accident. However, the commute to work is normally long and people have to hit the road early in the morning and do not arrive home until late at night. The rate of accidents and theft is low in the suburbs as compared to the urban area, which allows for reduced auto insurance costs.

The cost of living in suburban areas is also lower and there are much better options in regard to schools. According to the New York Times, the graduation rate in suburban areas was 71 percent in the United States in 2009, while it stood at only 57 percent in urban areas. On the other hand, finding public transportation in the suburbs is not easy.
