The original Spanish translation of the Greek and Hebrew Scriptures by Reina and the subsequent revision by Valera was contemporaneous with and influential upon the famous English translation authorized by King James. Reina and Valera, however, had no such royal protection and were pursued by the Inquisition all their lives.
