Dont ever wipe with mineral spirits/paint thinner. It will leave a slight oily residue. I see a ton of people using it and they say they have no problems, but it does leave an oily film. Use denatured alcohol. Another possibility is that the spray can wasnt shaken good enough, and more solvent came out of the can that color.
