The ability to find the factor pairs is a useful math skill usually taught to students as an introduction to algebra. The process is fairly simple and the student needs only a basic understanding of multiplication.
4.OA.4Find all factor pairs for a whole number in the range 1—100. Recognize that a whole number is a multiple of each of its factors. Determine whether a given whole number in the range 1—100 is a multiple of a given one-digit number. Determine whether a given whole number in the range 1—100 is prime or composite.

"Factors" are the numbers we can multiply together to get another number: 2 and 3 are factors of 6. A number can have many factors. Example: 12. 3 × 4 = 12, so 3 and 4 are factors of 12; Also 2 × 6 = 12, so 2 and 6 are also factors of 12, And 1 × 12 = 12, so 1 and 12 are factors of 12 as well.
When finding the factor pairs of any number n, the largest number that needs to be checked is the largest whole number n. For example, the largest number that needs to be checked when finding the factors of 112 is the largest whole number 110, or 10. 7. This lesson can reinforce, and provide a visual model for, multiplication facts for struggling
4.Now think about 4. If 4 has a factor pair, draw another bow inside the other ones and label it with 4 and its factor pair, which is 6. 5.Now think about 5. 5 doesn’t have a factor pair, so you just skip it. 6.Now think about 6. You know you’re finished finding pairs because you already have reached 6 on the right side of the rainbow!
Pair factors of the number 27 are the whole numbers which could be positive and negative but not a fraction or decimal number. For example, the factors of 3 are 1 & 3 and -1 & -3. When we multiply two negative factors, the resulted number is positive, such as multiplying -1 and -3, we get the number 3.
Finding the factors of a number is an important math skill for basic arithmetic, algebra and calculus. The factors of a number are any numbers that divide into it exactly, including 1 and the number itself. In other words, every number is the product of multiple factors.
