a Valve Job? Cylinder Head Work to Restore compression, Increase Airflow and Oil Control. Pressure test/Vacuum test for leaks. Magnuflux for hairline cracks. Resurface/Mill head surface to restore surface. Bent valves, Bad guides and Dropped seats. 3 angle valve seat cutting for better sealing. Install Valve Stem Seals for better seal.

The purpose of a valve job is to resurface the poppet valves and their seats, which control the flow of air and fuel to move the pistons. On newer engines (V6 or V8), a valve job can cost up to $125 per valve that needs repairing, with the cost increasing for engines with over 12 valves. Therefore, a total valve job can cost upward of $1000.

I was wondering what a average valve job cost is, just a ball park estimate for a small block. And, maybe, if you know, 3 angle valve job bowl blending and porting..

If the engine is under 100,000 miles or so, and a valve job is needed because of damage caused by a broken timing belt (or chain) then a valve service may be all that is required. If the engine is high mileage, with normal associated wear, or if it is using oil or has significant sludge deposits then a remanufactured engine may be the best choice.

If you want to do the job correctly, you will need to add in the cost of machining for new valve seals ($50/pair cylinder heads), the cost of the actual seals ($80/pair cylinder heads), and then a valve job and assembling each cylinder head ($200/pair cylinder heads).
