A stop sign/line requires a full and complete stop. You're supposed to count up to 3 seconds the moment your car stops (or say 3 one thousands out loud) before you can continue. A yield sign only requires a full stop when they're are pedestrians crossing or cars in motion passing by. Basically when it's clear, just go about your business.
