The tables below give yearly averages for snowfall at each state in the United States. The numbers are for the total amount of snow and for how many days it snows at least 0.1 inches (0.25 centimetres). The snowfall totals are annual averages based on weather data collected from 1981 to 2010.


In some states, “let it snow” has a whole other meaning — with yearly snow totals breaking records. To determine the average annual snowfall amounts in inches across the country, we compiled weather data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information to narrow down a list of the 15 states that get the most snow every year.


The List of snowiest places in the United States by state shows average annual snowfall totals for the period mid-1985 to mid-2015. Only places in the official climate database of the National Weather Service, a service of NOAA, are included in this list.Some ski resorts and unofficial weather stations report higher amounts of snowfall than places on this list.


Out of all 50 states, Florida is the least likely to receive snow. Typical yearly snowfall for Florida, California and Hawaii is zero inches. Other states with low snowfall include Alabama with 0.8 inches per year, Arizona with 0.3 inches per year, Georgia with 0.7 inches per year, and South Carolina with 0.3 inches per year.
