There are two types of ribosomes, free ribosomes and bound ribosomes. Free ribosomes are found scattered in the cytoplasm while bound ribosomes are attached to the endoplasmic reticulum. However, although these ribosomes are located in different places in the cell they both still have the same function and similar structure.
For example, the ribosomes you find in eukaryotes are 60-S/40-S (60 large and 40 small) but in prokaryotic cells you’ll find 50-S/30-S (50 large and 30 small). Even though they have structural differences and the amounts will be different, they all help to synthesize protein inside of your body.
