Gun serial number 001 was made in 1889 of course and the last one, serial number 250,401 was made in 1910. Serial number 232,859 was made in mid 1908. I own a Remington Arms 30 inch 1889 bouble barrel side by side shotgun (two triggers) can you tell me its worth? I also have a Robinson Manufacturing (Freeport Ill) That is looks just like the Remington 1889 shotgun. I can not find any info on a shotgun made in the 1800s named Robinson Manufacturing.

I'm pretty sure it's pre-1899. The Remington site shows the first block of serial numbers in the range of 30,000 – 105,000 and says that they re-assigned numbers starting at 200,000 around 1900. Mine bears a s/n at the start of the 70,000 range.


For the time being at least, "RS" can simply be considered the successor prefix to "AB". And at least Remington seems to have changed the serial number prefixes & suffixes at the same time, so we can easily work out whether or not the serial number suffix is indicating a gun's chambering.

Around 1906 Remington made the change to the floating firing pin on both guns. It was a running change so there is no exact serial number. The best way to tell the two model's apart is by the serial numbers. The model 1894 serial number's start with a (1) and the model 1900 serial number's start with a (3).
