oil & gas. As industry leaders in indexable tooling specifically designed for the oil and gas industry, Tool-Flo inventories all standard thread forms including API round, API buttress, NPT/LPT, waterwell, and rotary shoulder thread forms and even offers scarfing inserts for pipe manufacturing.
The National Pipe Thread Taper (NPT) is a U.S. standard for tapered threads used on threaded pipes and fittings. A taper thread will pull tight and therefore make a fluid-tight seal. NPT is defined by ANSI/ASME standard B1.20.1.
Some conditions require a parallel screw thread to be screwed into a tapered mate. Gage Crib Worldwide Inc. specializes in screw thread measurement tools. The best screw thread measurement tool for pipe threads is often screw thread gages. These screw thread gauges are specifically designed for each type of pipe thread.
American Petroleum Institute (API) oil field screw thread gages are available as working screw thread gages or master screw thread gages. API Master Screw Thread Gages American Petroleum Institute (API) oil field Master screw thread gages can be owned by anyone. Depending on your use for the master gage the certification will be important.

• Upset gauge ring on the bottom is sized for application • Large bevel cut to provide a scraping edge • Industry standard thread connection complete with finishing neck • Gauge and scrape clean paraffin, wax and other debris from inside the wall of the completion tubing string
NOTE: Threads can become worn and may not compare exactly to our tables. 2. Use a thread pitch gauge to determine the number of threads per inch or the distance between threads in metric connections. 3. Use the seat angle gauge to determine the angle of the sealing surface. The centreline of the fitting and the gauge should be parallel.

The notation that points to the thread says "1.315 x 10NU". The part itself is called a collar, and connects long pieces of pipe that go down into the ground. (At least these people call it a collar. I've also come across the terms pin and box, but I don't know if these are just oilfield terms for the male pipe and female coupling.)
