The 2018 Atlantic hurricane season outlook is an official product of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center (CPC). The outlook is produced in collaboration with hurricane experts from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and the Hurricane Research Division (HRD).
Today, NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center updated its forecast to a nearly 70 percent likelihood of El Nino during the hurricane season. Additionally, sea surface temperatures across the tropical Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea have remained much cooler than average.
NOAA will announce its initial outlook for the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season during a news conference on May 24 at NOAA’s Aircraft Operations Center in Lakeland, Florida. Speakers will address the expected activity for the 2018 season, as well as highlight NOAA model upgrades, new forecast products and observational enhancements.
